Troll Better.

Feed your mind with good.

Filter your feed.

Junk content is just as bad for you as junk food, arguably worse. Follow things that make you laugh, smile, and inspire you. Follow feeds you can learn from. Follow only the friends you actually talk to and care about. Everything and everyone else should go.

Turn off alerts.

Alerts and notifications are overrated. You do not need to know the exact second that someone has liked your post or replied to an email or called you for that matter. It takes an average of 23 minutes to focus after a distraction. Time is the most valuable commodity, value your time.

Unsubscribe.

Emails cost you data to download, and it bears a carbon footprint as well. It is one thing to open and read the spam but how many unread newsletters and marketing emails do you just delete? You won’t “read it later” like you keep telling yourself, it is just mental clutter. Unsubscribe now.

Tweak #1: Put your phone down.

We do not need to be contacted at all hours of the day and night. Set some boundaries. Live in Do Not Disturb mode and check your emails and messages only when you need to. Before July 2009, before the iPhone, we lived more freely and more in the moment. We lived with less distractions and we lived with more connection to real things and people. We need to time travel back to realer times.

Tweak #2: Understand how the monster works.

Social media was created with the best intentions but let’s not forget that the path the hell was paved with good intentions. Social media was created by social outcasts and as intelligent as these engineers are, they designed a world that they thrive in, and now we all live in it. To pour fuel on the fire, their creation was then evolved by people who are paid to manipulate you into doing what they want you to do in order to make more money. Quitting is not the only solution because there is good in socials when we consume it properly. When you know how things work you are less susceptible to being bamboozled.
