Why plastic-free matters.
Polyethylene (plastic) was invented and re-reinvented circa 1900 and 1930’s and made popular and affordable in the 1950’s. The most shocking fact is the half of all plastic that is on Earth today was created after 2005, and it is estimated that plastic packaging production is predicted to quadruple by 2050 and the plastics peak only to be hit by 2100.
Convenience will be
the death of us.
Because we “don’t have time” to carry our own reusable cup or cotton bag, the average city-slicker, will consume a plastic water bottle every other day, a coffee cup once or twice daily, a plastic bag here or there, takeaway containers for lunch or dinner. That’s daily! Whatever you think you are doing, trust me, until you count or collect it for a week/month, you really won’t see the sheer amount of plastic we consume mindlessly.
This is a real photo
Since covid, I have been in Singapore with my grandparents and my aunt and a live-in maid (5 adults under 1 household). I collected all food containers. I did throw away/recycle the plastic bottles, which we rarely bring home but since late 2020, I have started keeping them because I realised there was an Eco Brick collection point in Singapore. If it was not for me, I estimate my family would have brought back 15-25% more plastic containers.
